I think it is a great idea since the old organization has lost its original vision. Make it into something like summer camp. Boys and girls learning together.
They need to change the name of course to something like "Explorer's Club." That should free the name up and someone with the original vision can restart a new group called "Boy Scouts," for boys. I bet it would be a grand success!

Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts aren’t equivalent. So, why should females be prevented from taking part in Boy Scouts or vice versa? Also, the Eagle Scout Award has a much greater standing than the equivalent Girls Scout award (the Girls Scout Gold Award). The Boy Scouts places a greater emphasis on camping, hiking, etc. than the Girls Scouts. So, if the interests of a child are there, then why not?

Because it is the BOY Scouts, that's why. Fix the Girl Scouts if they want something but sheesh.

A friend of mine posted this: https://lelandacker.com/2017/10/12/the-real-issue-with-the-boys-scouts/
They are still keeping the troops single-sex, so they are almost just creating a girl's division. Tempest in a teapot.
david_taylor_jr — 2017-10-12T17:21:19-04:00 — #7
Right, so why not just fix the Girl Scouts?
justin_gatlin — 2017-10-12T17:28:33-04:00 — #8
Who do you think should just fix the girl scouts?
The people who run the Boy Scouts have no authority over the Girl Scouts. The girls who are upset with the direction the program is going obviously do not have enough strength to elect different board members. So the Boy Scouts, seeing a need, open the Cub Scouts to girls. I am sure that when the older Boy Scouts start to have female troops, there will be be different nomenclature.

If there is a need start another organization. It's the principle of the thing. And let's be honest, did they really see a need or are they caving to the PC Gender Equality crowd?

Could you articulate "the principle of the thing" to me? I guess I don't see what principle is being betrayed.

I see something a little odd about insisting GIRLS join BOY scouts, when GIRL scouts already exists.
Here is one view.
Here is another view.

The principle is that girls are not boys and it is the Boy Scouts
justin_gatlin — 2017-10-13T15:43:38-04:00 — #13
So as long as they change the same of the parent organization, you are okay with it? Right now, girls will be joining "cub scout" groups.

It doesn't matter to me really either way as the Boy Scouts have LONG since lost their way. But this is just the nail in the coffin.
