From time to time we hear of favorite cures for what ails us. Family recipes, poultices, soups....
Years ago I walked into a health clinic because of a cough. The Christian Doctor told me she would lose 80% of her walk in patients if they would do one thing. Gargle using a mixture of 1 tsp Peroxide and 1 tsp liquid Benadryl (I use a generic brand). I cannot gargle using that small amount so I swallow it on a full stomach. Anytime I feel something developing I do this and have not been sick in years.
Any other tips you might share?
I have some unusual relatives, which can't be helped.
They would suggest: Cayenne pepper and vinegar along with endless pill bottles, some containing home-brewed concoctions. None of them have exceptionally good health, but they seem to have survived.
Traveling abroad a lot, I get enough unknown peculiarities in my diet, that I am not deliberately looking for much more. Having said that, I sometimes try garlic and zinc for a threatening cold, which seems to sometimes help. Maybe. It's fun to have at least one old wive's tale cure up your sleeve.
In our neck of the woods you can buy almost any drug imaginable at the corner market or sometimes from a small broken wooden table on the street. Contents may contain at least some of what is written on the label, but not necessarily. However, the price is right. A prescription is necessary only to aid in drug identification. If you don't have a prescription then you get what you want anyway. If they don't have what you want they seem able to obtain it quickly, sometimes mixing it on the spot. I will try to post a photo of one of these, if I can find the one I am thinking of. Oh, I could tell you more stories...
